At a glance: every system by height
Measure your child's height, then find the matching row. A child of about 100 cm usually wears UK 3–4 years, EU 98–104, US 3T–4T and Japanese 100; at about 107 cm it's UK 4–5 years, EU 104–110, US 4T–5T and Japanese 110.

UK ages and heights follow Next's charts (with John Lewis from 6 years); EU and US sizes follow H&M's chart; Japanese sizes use MUJI's height ranges, matched at the middle of each row. These equivalents are worked out from height, not an official conversion.
Three things to remember
- 1UK sizes are ages, EU sizes are heights and US sizes use months and T sizes — convert everything to height before comparing.
- 2Age labels don't line up between brands — H&M puts 2T at 1½–2 years, Carter's at about 2–3 years — so compare heights, not ages.
- 3In China's national standard, "110/56" means 110 cm tall with a 56 cm chest; Japanese sizes are the child's height, and many Korean brands label by height too.
Which size systems you'll meet in Singapore
Singapore has no national standard for kids' sizes: we found no Singapore Standard, and ISO 3638 (size designation of infants' garments), sold through the Singapore Standards eShop, was withdrawn in January 2026. What matters is where the brand comes from.
The five systems you'll see most
- UK: labelled by age, such as "2–3 years". Next's chart puts 2–3 years at 92–98 cm.
- Europe: the number is the height, in 6 cm steps — 92, 98, 104. H&M lists a 104 as 3–4 years.
- US: months for babies (3M, 6M…), 2T–5T for toddlers, then 4, 5, 6 and up. Carter's lists a 3T as 36.5–38.5 in (about 93–98 cm).
- Australia: 00000 to 0 for babies, then 1 to 16 — a 3 is about 2–3 years and 100 cm.
- Asia: Japanese, Korean and Chinese clothes mostly use centimetres — a Japanese 100 fits 95–105 cm — and China's national standard writes sizes like "110/56".
US sizes in centimetres
US brands give their charts in inches and pounds. The table shows Carter's height ranges with our conversion to centimetres (1 in = 2.54 cm).
| US | Height (in) | In cm (converted) |
|---|---|---|
| NB | ≤ 21.5 | ≤ 55 |
| 3M | 21.5–24 | 55–61 |
| 6M | 24–26.5 | 61–67 |
| 9M | 26.5–28.5 | 67–72 |
| 12M | 28.5–30.5 | 72–77 |
| 18M | 30.5–32.5 | 77–83 |
| 24M | 32.5–34 | 83–86 |
| 2T | 34.5–36.5 | 88–93 |
| 3T | 36.5–38.5 | 93–98 |
| 4T | 38.5–41.5 | 98–105 |
| 5T | 41.5–43.5 | 105–110 |
What does "110/56" mean on clothes made in China?
It follows China's national standard GB/T 1335.3-2009, sizing systems for children's garments. The first number is height in cm; the second is chest (on tops) or waist (on bottoms) in cm. So a top labelled 110/56 is for a child about 110 cm tall with a chest of about 56 cm.
The standard splits children into three ranges: babies from 52 to 80 cm in 7 cm steps, children from 80 to 130 cm in 10 cm steps, and older girls (135–155 cm) and boys (135–160 cm) in 5 cm steps, with chest in 4 cm steps and waist in 3 cm steps.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions
What height is UK size 2–3 years?
Next's chart lists 2–3 years as 92–98 cm, and John Lewis puts 3 years at 98 cm. That's between a Japanese 90 and 100.
What age is EU size 104?
H&M lists 104 as 3–4 years and Name it as 4 years. It's for a child about 104 cm tall, roughly a US 4T.
Is a US 4T the same as UK 3–4 years?
Very close: Carter's 4T is 38.5–41.5 in (about 98–105 cm) and Next's 3–4 years is 98–104 cm. The cut differs, though, so leg length and waist can still vary.
What does 110/56 mean on a kids' label?
It's the "height/girth" format of China's national standard: on a top, 110/56 means about 110 cm tall with a 56 cm chest; on trousers, the second number is the waist.
Does Singapore have its own kids' size standard?
We couldn't find one. ISO 3638 (size designation of infants' garments), sold through the Singapore Standards eShop, was withdrawn in January 2026. Shops usually follow the brand's home-market sizes.
